- Abutment
- A natural tooth or implanted tooth substitute used to
support or anchor a dental prosthesis.
- AGD
- Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), an organization of
general dentists who are dedicated to professional
development and continuing education.
- Bicuspid
- One of the two double-pointed teeth which intervene
between the canines (cuspids) and the molars, on each side
of each jaw.
- Bridge
- A fixed or removable replacement for one or several but
not all of the natural teeth, usually anchored at each end
to a natural tooth.
- Crown
- An artificial substitute for the natural crown of a
tooth.
- Cuspid
- One of the canine teeth; -- so called from having but
one point or cusp on the crown.
- Dentition
- The type, number, and arrangement of a set of teeth.
- DDS
- Doctor of Dental Surgery.
- EDDA
- Expanded Duties Dental Assistant.
- Endosseous
- Insertion of an implant into the bone of the mandible or
maxilla.
- FAGD
- Your dentist is a member of the Academy of General
Dentistry (AGD), an organization of general dentists who are
dedicated to professional development and continuing
education. All AGD members must remain current with advances
in the profession to provide quality patient treatment. A
general dentist who is a "Fellow" in the Academy of General
Dentistry (FAGD) has been recognized by other general
dentists as a leader and an example to other dentists of the
importance of quality continuing dental education to patient
care.
- Implant
- A titanium metal screw that is placed into the jaw bone.
The implant serves as an anchor for a false tooth or set of
false teeth.
- Molar
- A tooth with a broad crown used to grind food, located
behind the premolars.
- Prosthodontics
- The specialty of restoring teeth and/or replacing
missing teeth with artificial substitutes, such as implants.
- RDH
- Registered Dental Hygienist.
- RDR
- Registered Dental Radiologist.
- RN
- Registered Nurse.
